L'actuel pont de la Concorde est achevé en 1791, en utilisant des pierres issues de la démolition de la Bastille. Toutefois, il reprend toutefois un programme lancé un peu avant. En effet, ce fut l'architecte Jean Rodolphe Perronet qui le dessina en 1787, dans la continuité d'une grande place royale, alors dédiée à Louis XV.
